Gor Mahia fans will have to wait much longer for the club to be able to build its new stadium, club chairperson Ambrose Rachier has admitted.

The record Kenya Premier League winners have been long accused of inaction and lack of ambition when it comes to building their own venue to host their usually well attended matches across various competitions.

Tanzanian outfit Azam FC is famously known for owning their own Stadium in Dar es Salaam and Gor's status as arguably the most supported club in Kenya, coupled with their history, can be accused of lagging behind.

However, according to Rachier, who has been Kogallo chair for nearly two decades, insists that the club is ambitious but at the same time reality should not be ignored.

"We have a plot of land in Kasarani that is paid for but we cannot use it because getting the paperwork has been difficult, Rachier told a press conference in Nairobi. We might be forced to go elsewhere, he said during a press conference in Nairobi.

Rachier also took aim at the general state of stadia in Kenya, with the country generally lacking a top-level facility over the last few years, even forcing the national team Harambee Stars to play their fixtures away from the country.

"You have seen us playing in Uganda and Malawi because of the lack of facilities. City Stadium has been closed for many years, and we are struggling with Nyayo Stadium," he remarked.

"We hope the government will avail these facilities, but in the meantime, we must take responsibility as a club."

Rachier, who has been Gor chair for as long as many can recall, does not accept excuses over the situation and reiterates that the responsibility is his and the club's to set themselves in a good position to compete for the future.

"We, as a club, have a responsibility to find land independently and build a stadium, whether exclusively or through a joint venture," he spoke of his wishes.

Nyayo National Stadium has just recently been re opened following two years of renovations that took place in preparation for hosting the upcoming CHAN competition that will take place in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August.

The Kasarani stadium is also closed at the moment.

Gor will host their Annual General Meeting and Elections on April 13, 2025, where Rachier will be seeking an extension to his stay for another term as per the club's new constitution implemented in 2019.
